It depends on where you live and the size and height of the deck. In most cases, a new deck does require a permit, especially if it’s attached to the home or elevated above a certain height. We’ll verify the local requirements for your specific municipality and handle the permitting process for you so everything is built to code and inspected properly.
We primarily build with cedar and composite decking, especially Deckorators StoneSure, which is our preferred composite option. StoneSure stays cooler underfoot, is extremely durable, and doesn’t have the twisting and warping issues common with traditional pressure-treated lumber.
Cedar is also a great natural option. It’s what I used on my own deck before StoneSure was available, and it offers a beautiful, classic look when maintained properly.
Yes. We can incorporate low-voltage lighting to improve safety and extend how long you can comfortably use the space in the evenings.
For shade, we can build a covered porch designed to look original to your home or add a pergola or sail shade, depending on the style and level of coverage you want.
Yes, when it makes sense for the project.
For cedar decks, I prefer Ready Seal in Pecan. It enhances the natural character of the wood while offering a good balance of UV protection. Cedar typically needs to be recoated annually for the first few years, then less frequently as the wood becomes more saturated.
Composite products like Deckorators StoneSure do not require sealing, which is one reason many homeowners prefer them.
Usually, yes. Most of the decks we build are designed around your home’s architecture, your yard, and how you plan to use the space.
If you already have plans prepared, we’re also happy to review them and build accordingly.
Yes. We can help create a cohesive outdoor living space that brings multiple elements together.
In some cases, we collaborate with trusted landscape architects who can provide comprehensive designs that include lighting, irrigation, plantings, koi ponds, fountains, seating areas, and fully plumbed outdoor kitchens or simpler grilling stations. Not every project requires that level of design, but it’s an option when you want a more integrated plan.
